⚠The Tricky Three: 12×18 vs 12×20 vs 12×24
All three have the same cover on top. The profile section underneath is what determines the size. Look at the profile, not the cover.
12 × 18
Small Profile
Short blurb — headshot plus a paragraph or two. Profile is roughly ⅓ the height of the cover.
Cover : Profile ≈ 3 : 1
12 × 20
Medium Profile
Short article — headshot plus several paragraphs in columns. Profile is roughly ½ the cover.
Cover : Profile ≈ 2 : 1
12 × 24
Large Profile
Full-length article — long-form write-up, often with embedded photos. Profile is about equal to the cover.
Cover : Profile ≈ 1 : 1
Step-by-Step: Which Size Is It?
1. Is the cover image roughly square?
Yes → 12 × 14 (Square cover, like Best of Loudoun County). Done.
2. Is there a single rectangular cover with NO profile underneath?
Yes → 12 × 16 (1-page magazine cover only, like Tampa Bay Metro). Done.
3. Are there two pages mounted SIDE-BY-SIDE (left and right)?
Yes → 22 × 16 (Wide layout, like Top Women in HR). Done.
4. Are there two pages stacked VERTICALLY (cover on top, profile below)?
Yes → continue to step 5.
5. Compare the profile box height to the cover height:
Profile is about ⅓ of cover → 12 × 18 (small profile)
Profile is about ½ of cover → 12 × 20 (medium, like Ingram's 40 Under 40)
Profile is about equal to cover → 12 × 24 (large, like Best of Baton Rouge interior design)
